Move to arrest casino owner not aimed at hitting Cambodia: Minister

JUSTICE Minister Thawee Sodsong denied the issuing of an arrest warrant for Mr. Kok An, a Cambodian national who is close to Senate President Hun Sen and is the owner of Crown Casino Resort network, is aimed at retaliating against the neighbouring country amid ongoing border tension, Amarin TV said today (July 8).

The Cambodian suspect, whose network owns two highrise buildings in Poipet, just across the border from Aranyaprathet district, one 25 stories and the other 18, has been charged with operating a large call centre gang there with Thai people deceived to work for them and swindled.

Thawee said there are currently a lot of cyberfraud and mule account cases, with 80,000 suspects detained while undergoing trial.

It is therefore necessary to take action against the masterminds behind the scenes.

Asked whether moving to arrest Kok An is in response to actions Cambodia has taken against Thailand, Thawee said there is a lot of evidence against him and action is being taken accordingly.

“We looked at the evidence and found that he was the perpetrator,” he said.

Meanwhile, a team of Technology Crime Suppression and Immigration police sealed off 19 locations in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, and Chonburi as part of an operation to close mule accounts and track down Kok An, Naewna newspaper said.

One of them is a house in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan province, and so far, several luxury vehicles and 27 million baht in cash have been seized.
