Big rush for free eggs given by foreign family at temple event

A GERMAN man and his Thai wife thrilled villagers in Kalasin province by distributing free eggs on the occasion of giving a big donation for the construction of a new building for monks to live in and joining in officially opening the new Wat Pa Si Sutthawat temple today (July 3), Naewna newspaper said.

Dr. Rainer Kuppy and wife Mrs. Manirat Chaiyasiha and their family from Germany were the main donors for the construction of this building having given cash and construction materials worth 799,018 baht. They had also previously donated money and other goods on several occasions for the construction of this new temple.

Kuppy said that he is a German businessman and has been married Manirat, a villager of Huai Mek district of this province, for decades and they had four children. As she is a devout Buddhist she had donated money and other necessities for both constructing this temple and to the community many times.

On this special occasion, which is also their second son’s birthday, they decided to distribute 2,000 eggs to the local residents which made them very happy and turned the event lively.

Ms. Lamphan Khamhaengphon, mayor of Kham Mueat Kaeo subdistrict, said the Kuppy family is kind-hearted and has always supported Buddhist and community activities.

This is also the first time that a foreign family with Buddhist hearts have been the main hosts of a large merit-making event, both for opening the new temple which was built over several decades and now the construction of monks residence building.

The villagers also got eggs to take home which filled the air with excitement and happiness.
