Thammanat looks to fish for Bhumjaithai, People’s MPs as new cabinet lineup looms

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THAMMANAT PROMPAO of the Klatham has been surreptitiously persuading certain Bhumjaithai and People’s MPs to turn coat and perform in line with the Pheu Thai-led government whereas de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra has contemplated reshuffling the current cabinet of ministers by kicking out the second largest coalition partner and sapping the largest opposition camp respectively, according to partisan sources.

The prominent Klatham MP has been covertly coaxing and cajoling a number of elected lawmakers under influence of de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob, especially those representing northeastern and southern constituencies, as well as some of the People’s MPs of northern and eastern constituencies to practically align themselves with the Pheu Thai, also known as the Red camp domineered and steered by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra’s father though they may continue to virtually put on their Blue and Orange shirts respectively, the partisan sources said.

The mega-billionaire, power player might probably manipulate to expel the Bhumjaithai from the current coalition government as soon as legislation on the 2026 budget has sailed through its principle-approval stage in the House of Representatives by the end of this month, given unresolved conflict of interest between Newin’s camp and his own and manage to replace Newin’s MPs with most of the Palang Pracharath and Thai Sang Thai lawmakers whose camps are currently part of the People’s-led opposition bloc.

The legal action currently taken by the Department of Special Investigation and Election Commission against 100-plus senators allegedly stalwart to the Bhumjaithai on charges of involvement in vote-buying, vote-rigging and bloc-voting shenanigans over last year’s triple-tiered, senatorial elections has considerably aggravated distrust and doubts between the de facto bosses of both camps, the partisan sources said.

Thammanat would manage for more of the People’s MPs to turn coat and practically endorse the Pheu Thai-led government’s legislations and motions at parliament without formally changing parties, following suit of one People’s MP of Chonburi who has openly announced his intention to leave for the Klatham.

Though People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut confirmed People’s MP Krit Chivathamnanon branded as a “cobra” who had allegedly betrayed the will of his eastern constituents will be virtually “pickled” to the extent that his planned, formal defection be categorically denied by the People’s executive board, the renegade lawmaker could effortlessly act in line with resolutions and policies of Thaksin’s camp.

Thammanat, a former agriculture & cooperatives minister and former secretary-general of the Palang Pracharath, currently the second largest opposition party, is not only personally close to Klatham leader/Agriculture & Cooperatives Minister Narumon Pinyosinwat but to the de facto Pheu Thai boss since the last couple of decades.

The sustained Pheu Thai-Bhumjaithai conflict and Sunday’s results of municipality mayors/councillors elections which registered victories of the Pheu Thai candidates and defeat of the People’s contestants notwithstanding, Thaksin would ultimately decide against having his daughter-turned-“puppet” prime minister dissolve the House for fear of electoral defeat to the Bhumjaithai and People’s in an otherwise subsequent race to parliament.
