Hired queuers brawl over limited edition handbag

A FIGHT broke out among some queuers hired to book the purchase of a limited edition handbag outside a shopping mall in Nonthaburi late last night (March 21) with the brawlers disappearing when police showed up, Amarin TV said.

The fight erupted at 11 p.m. last night and afterwards when a reporter from this TV station got there he saw some queuers were still sitting around others sleeping on the sidewalk or the lawn as they did not believe the sale had been cancelled as police had announced.

The shopping mall’s security guards police from Bang Yai station blocked outsiders from the area where the fight broke out. In addition clumps of hair were found on the ground with this believed to be that of a woman who started the fight.

After police announced that the shop had cancelled the sale of this limited edition handbag, some queuers started returning home with the reporter noticing many cars had come to pick them up, amid disappointment.

Mr. Suphirat (surname withheld), 27, a queuer said he and his friends were hired by their customers to book the purchase of maximum two each of the limited edition handbag, in black and ivory colours, with 150 people who got there first being the lucky ones. If he was able to reserve the purchase he was to be paid 800 baht. If not he would get 400 baht for the time spent.

The fight erupted after more than 150 queuers lined up with some of them started cursing and pointing at each other. Then both men and women as well as the elderly started hitting and punching each other and while one security guard did show up, he couldn’t stop them.

He added that he had never heard of this brand before and was still confused at the big rush and fight to get them with the price being less than 2,000 baht.

“Why do they have to attack and stomp on each other like vegetables?” he asked.

Pol. Col. Sirapop Anusiri, superintendent of Bang Yai police station, revealed that this brand had posted on social media that they would be selling only 300 limited edition handbags at this mall from 10 a.m. today.

Arguments broke out with this leading to physical assault after the queue stretched longer than 150 people entitled to buy two each.

When the police arrived those who had fought each other had already departed with no one filing a complaint.
