Constitutional Court urged to hold polling agency guilty, annul senatorial races

 By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT was today (March 12) pleaded to hold the Election Commission guilty of failure to hold last year’s senatorial elections in fair and clean fashion and to declare the notorious races to parliament null and void, albeit in retroactive fashion.

Nataporn Toprayoon, a former adviser to the Office of the Ombudsman, formally petitioned the Constitutional Court to not only hold the polling agency guilty of duty-negligence and misconduct charges pertaining to alleged electoral rigging conspiracies in undue favour of as many as 138 out of a total 200 senators but to declare the senatorial races null and void and to indefinitely suspend all the suspected senators from doing their legislative duties pending criminal and money-laundering investigation currently conducted by the Department of Special Investigation.

However, most of the suspected senators have filed power-abusing charges against Justice Minister Thavi Sodsong and DSI Director-General Yutthana Praedum who has been directly taking charge of the agency’s in-depth probe into the electoral fraud scandals.

In addition, the petitioner said a certain political party could probably be held accountable for the alleged bloc-voting, money-laundering shenanigans over the senatorial elections and could possibly be dissolved at the order of the court at a later date.

Nataporn charged that the 138 senators have so far obviously performed at parliament in line with plans and schemes of the Bhumjaithai, the second largest coalition partner under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob.

Without naming names, Nataporn said the political party in question could probably be found guilty by court of undermining the country’s rule by allegedly masterminding such an electoral fraud in spite of the relevant laws and regulations.
