Alcohol sale to be allowed at certain places on Buddhist holy days

 

THE government is moving to quickly amend the law and allow the sale of alcoholic beverages at certain places on the five key Buddhist holy days, Thai Rath newspaper said today (March 4).

Deputy Prime Minister/ Minister of Digital Economy and Society Prasert Chantarawongthong, who is head of the National Alcoholic Beverage Policy Committee, said at Government House that this step is being taken to promote Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025.

However the ban will remain on the five key Buddhist holy days, Makha Bucha, Visakha Bucha, Asalha Bucha, Khao Phansa and Ok Phansa except for the following places: 

International airports;

Service establishments as listed in the Service Establishment Act;

Establishments that provide services similar to service establishments located in tourist areas as announced by the Public Health Ministry at the advice of  Interior Ministry. Screening measures must be in place to maintain peace and order and ensure public safety while not serving inappropriate alcoholic beverages to  children and youths;

Hotels in accordance with the Hotel Act;

Places holding national or international special events attracting a lot of people according to the list of places announced by the Public Health Ministry as advised by the Tourism and Sports Ministry.
