Tachiliek still brightly lit but scam centre dimmer

MYANMAR’S Tachileik town, opposite Mae Sai town in Chiang Rai province, remained brightly lit tonight (Feb. 5) having got electricity from Laos after Thailand cut off this supply plus Internet service and fuel deliveries from five points this morning (Feb. 5) in targeting scam centres that have proliferated along Myanmar side of the border, Naewna newspaper said.

The Tachileik News Agency page posted photos showing the border town ablaze with colour from many lights and people moving around normally even though Thailand had shut off the power supply.

“Although Thailand’s electricity was cut off, power returned to Tachileik by connecting to Laos’ electricity on the same day. We were able to supply power to many communities again at 5 p.m.,” the page said,

However the situation was entirely different at Shwe Kokko scam centre in Myawaddy, just across from Mae Sot, where it was observed at 8 p.m. that 40% of the numerous lights were switched off,

Noteworthy is that this scam hub’s landmark,  China View building, had blended into the darkness and could not be seen.
