Nearly 4 million tourists flocked to Thailand in January

THAILAND attracted 3,967,469 foreign tourists during Jan. 1-Feb. 2, 2025 generating approximately 195.090 billion baht in tourist spending, TV Channel 7 said today (Feb. 4).

Minister of Tourism and Sports Surawong Thienthong said the top five countries from where most tourists came to Thailand are China (710,687), Malaysia (482,719), Russia (274,680), South Korea (221,993  and India (195,422).

There was a 7.53% jump in tourist arrivals last week when Chinese New Year was celebrated, particularly those coming here for a short holiday. This increase was also due to the government’s confidence-building measures and visa-free access by citizens of 93 countries.

In particular, more Taiwanese tourists showed up last week with the total jumping from the sixth to fifth place while large numbers of Malaysian tourists too flocked in, increasing by 79.67% from the previous week.

At the same time there was a drop in long-stay tourists as this is the end of the high season.

A total of 946,958 tourists came here last week, an increase of 66,348 or 7.53% from the previous week. This represents an average of 135,280 foreign tourists travelling to Thailand per day.

The top five countries from which tourists came are China (177,834), Malaysia (170,797), Russia (55,359), South Korea (45,902), and Taiwan (33,878).

The tourism situation this week (Feb. 3-9) is expected to remain stable.
