WITH the authorities enforcing strict control during the 10 dangerous days of the New Year festival (Dec. 27 to Jan. 5) 19 traffic offenders were ordered by court to wear electronic monitoring (EM) bracelet today (New Year’s Eve Dec. 31), Amarin TV said.
Pol. Lt. Col. Suriya Singhakamol, head of the Probation Department, said 18 of the offenders were drink drivers and one a drug driver with all of them having to wear the EM bracelet for three to four months.
So far 23 traffic offenders have been fitted with EM bracelets.
Yesterday, the fourth of the 10 dangerous days, 2,032 traffic cases entered the probation process, of which 1,997 were drink driving and 35 driving under the influence.
Altogether 3,795 cases piled up in the probation process the first four of 10 dangerous days with 3,661 cases (96.47%) being drink driving, 130 (3.43%) driving under influence and four cases (0.10%) reckless driving.
Chiang Mai had the most cases of drink driving totaling 306 followed by Bangkok with 294 and Samut Prakan 258. Highest alcohol level measured was 302 mg/dL.
