WITH the New Year just round the corner, revellers of all ages looking for a cool way to say farewell to this one might like to join “Travel Locally, Eat Deliciously in Samut Prakan Province” festival which started on Christmas Day and ends with a spectacular New Year countdown fireworks, Amarin TV said this evening (Dec. 26).
Both local residents and tourists thronged yesterday’s opening ceremony at Samut Prakan Provincial Hall presided over by Mr. Prateep Nateetaweewat, the province’s deputy governor, where there was a spectacular fireworks display to kick off the festival.
Mr. Wimon Mongkhoncharoen,Samut Prakan Provincial Administrative Organisation’s secretary, said over a hundred outstanding shops and restaurants that epitomise the local Pak Nam identity have been selected for this event.
The festival, which will help stimulate the provincial economy, is expected to attract 2,000 to 3,000 people a day for seven days and nights generating around a million baht each day.
The venue has been divided into various zones as follows:
– Ancient Market Zone where original Pak Nam food is available in a retro atmosphere;
– Dessert Zone offering traditional and new-style desserts for those with a sweet tooth;
– Halal Food Zone presenting top-quality Halal food that has been strictly certified as Halal;
– International Food Zone takes you on a journey to a world of flavours with carefully selected menus from different parts of the globe;
– Gift Zone, where the best OTOP products from Samut Prakan and many other areas are available for those looking for New Year gifts;
– Food Truck offering delicious food on wheels;
– Laughing Land Zone – in this land of laughter there is a giant Christmas tree, a Christmas house, simulated snow, several countdown photo spots along with games and activities;
– Landmark Zone, Pak Nam City – here there are many spots to take photos and share including the Samut Prakan City Observation Tower;
– Stage Zone is packed with performances all seven days and nights with some well-known bands rocking the crowd including Polycat, Paradox, Pretzelle, Nuvo, Purpeech, Mean, Parkmalody, Boy Peacemaker, Sarah Salola, Wanyai, The Palace, Landokmai and Kan Naphat. There are also special performances including Magic Team (Fantastic Show), Balloon Man Show, Christmas and Countdown Choir and Tah Tung Mong Chef Percussion Show.
The not-to-be-missed highlight is a world-class fireworks show at Samut Prakan City Hall, the activity stage at Samut Prakan Provincial Hall and the Chao Phraya River to countdown to the New Year.
This festival, with free entry, runs from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. everyday but stretches to midnight on New Year’s Eve.
