POLICE seized 15.6 million methamphetamine pills hidden in a pickup truck in Ayutthaya yesterday (Dec. 10) and arrested a suspect with this stemming from further investigation of a sting operation in June, Naewna newspaper said.

Mr. Wirathep (surname withheld), or Thep Klongjik, was arrested and seized from the pickup truck he was driving were 78 sacks with each containing 200,000 meth pills, totalling 15.6 million, that had been brought across from a neighbouring country,

Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran Nuanma, assistant national police chief, said a Metropolitan Police Region 6 team had expanded investigation of a successful sting operation in June whereby small drug traders were lured into placing orders on X social media platform.

This led to the arrest of many major dealers and a lot of evidence obtained.

It was discovered that when members of this drug network were arrested they would field new drug runners with clean records.

Police also found out last month that a group of drug dealers in Ayutthaya’s Bang Pa-in district had transported drugs many times which led to yesterday’s arrest.

The suspect said he was paid 10,000 to 30,000 baht per trip with this being additional income to 17,000 baht a month salary he earned from working at a factory in Pathum Thani.

He also admitted to have joined the recent Narm Mai Arb trip (No Shower trip) to Phu Thap Boek hill destination at Khao Kho National Park in Phetchabun which attracted around 200 bikers.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran added that three recent drug busts were all due to clues given by the public and he thanked them for doing so.
