PRIME Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra today (Jan. 29) ordered two ministers to discuss with relevant agencies on resolving PM2.5 pollution as the tiny particulate matter dangerously clogs lungs with one step being not buying corn and sugarcane from farmers who burn the surfaces of their post-harvest farmlands, TV Channel 7 said.
Paetongtarn told Deputy Prime Minister/ Digital Economy and Society Minister
Prasert Jantararuangthong and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Chalermchai Sri-on to take urgent action as the cool season approaches.
Among the steps to reduce the toxic dust pollution is not buying corn and sugarcane from farmers both within the country and in other countries who habitual torch stumps and remnants left over in their farmlands after harvest.
All ministries, particularly the Transport Ministry, were told to coordinate in cracking down on vehicles emitting black smoke and issue strict measures to stop factories from giving off toxic fumes.
