WINNING the second round of election for Pathum Thani Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO) chairman today (Sep. 22) was Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamronwit Thoopkrachang, or Big Jazz, who had come second in the scrapped first round after the winner, Charn Puangpet, was given a yellow card over complaints of alleged vote buying, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Khamronwit was accompanied by Wan Yubamrung at a war room setup within Mongkol-Jongkong Thoopkrachang Foundation to follow the vote counting and cheered after it became clear he had won the race.
There was a row over Wan having supported Khamronwit during the cancelled election that led to him resigning from Pheu Thai, which had backed Charn, and joining Palang Pracharath after Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra/party leader got annoyed with him for doing so.
Wan’s father, Pheu Thai MP Chalerm Yubamrung, then dared the party to expel him but Paetongtarn said her camp did not have a policy of expelling errant MPs.
Unofficial result at 7.31 p.m. from all seven districts of Pathum Thani is as follows:
Number 1) Mr.Charn Puangpet,110,713 votes;
Number 2) Mr. Athiwatt Sonnei, 6,754 votes;
Number 3) Pol. Lt. Gen. Khamronwit Thoopkrachang, 168,986 votes;
Number 4) Mr. Noppadol Latda-yam, 8,981 votes.
Khamronwit later said that he was not worried about people filing complaints because he and his team did not do anything wrong and had stayed within the boundaries of the law.
Moreover even though the Election Commission had not verified the result he would start tackling flooding right away.
He also urged reporters not to mention political parties because Pheu Thai did not support Charn in the second round with the party’s logo being absent from posters which then turned it into a race among independents.
