AFTER the dead body of a Myanmar worker who was one of three trapped in a collapsed tunnel, which is part of the Bangkok-Nakhon Ratchasima section of the Sino-Thai high speed train project, was brought out late this morning (Aug. 29) the relative of one of two Chinese workers still stuck there prayed outside the entrance for his safety, Amarin TV and Naewna newspaper said.
Officials have not yet named the deceased Myanmar worker, with this tunnel having collapsed at 11.40 p.m. last Saturday (Aug. 24) at Chanthuek subdistrict, Pak Chong district, trapping a Chinese supervisor, a Chinese backhoe operator and the deceased Myanmar truck driver two kilometres from the entrance.
At 11.7 a.m an ambulance from Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital and a rescue vehicle from Sawang Wicha Dhammasathan Foundation entered the tunnel.
In addition an investigator from Pak Chong police station also drove in while more ambulances and rescue vehicles drove to the parking lot in front of the tunnel filling it up.
The young Chinese woman, who is clearly a relative of one of the Chinese workers trapped within, walked to the front of the tunnel and pressed her hands together seemingly praying for his safety.
Looking worried she also tried to ask questions about the rescue effort within the tunnel
At 12.23 p.m. the police officer was the first to drive out of the tunnel followed by Sawang Wicha Dhammasathan Foundation rescue vehicle and Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital ambulance. The body of the unidentified worker was sent to this hospital for autopsy.
