Prosecutors proceeding with lese majeste case against Thaksin

THE Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) announced this morning (May 29) that it is proceeding with a lese majeste lawsuit, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, against de facto Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra stemming from an interview he gave to a news agency in Seoul in 2015, Naewna newspaper said.

The announcement at the OAG office on Ratchadapisek road was made by Mr. Prayuth Petchkhun, the office’s spokesman, Mr. Wiput Boonpran, special prosecutor for Criminal Division 8, and Mr. Nakent Thongpraywal, the office’s deputy spokesperson.

For this case, with the alleged violation committed outside Thailand, OAG is to indict Thaksin on both Section 112 and the Computer Crime Act B.E. 2550 (2007) charges now that he has returned to Thailand.

In a letter filed to OAG Thaksin denied all charges while requesting fairness.

After additional investigation the Attorney-General decided last Monday May 27 to indict him on both charges.

However Thaksin could not be arraigned right away because he submitted a letter from his doctor stating that he has caught Covid-19 and asking that the this be done on June 25 at 9 a.m. but it was decided to do so on June 18 at 9 a.m.
