ANOTHER young woman activist who has been detained on lese majeste charges and holding a hunger strike in protest of being denied bail was transferred to Thammasat Chalerm Phrakiat hospital upon getting stressed at the death of fellow activist Netiporn “Bung” Sanesangkhom due to her hunger strike during detention, Naewna newspaper said this afternoon (May 15).
Ms. Tantawan “Tawan” Tuatulanond, 22, is among three activists still on hunger strike while being detained on lese majeste charges.
Netiporn, 27, who had also been charged with violating the draconian lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, was yesterday pronounced dead at Thammasat Chalerm Phrakiat hospital after she had been rushed there from a hospital in the premises of a Bangkok prison.
Central Women’s Correctional Institution Director Ms. Ajari Srisunakroa confirmed over the phone that Tantawan had been sent to the Thammasat hospital for treatment as she was stressed over the death of her close friend Netiporn.
She added that while Tantawan was still able to take care of herself she did not know the details of her condition and sent her to the Thammasat hospital for stress treatment.
At least 41 young activists including the trio on the sustained hunger strike are currently detained and have been denied bail on similar lese majeste charges.
