2 more held in extorting cash from Chinese visitors

POLICE have arrested two more suspects on charges of extorting  US$65,000, or approximately 2.5 million baht, from five Chinese nationals who were rounded up from their hotel rooms in Din Daeng district with the help of two corrupt policemen and so far seven out of 10 gang members have been apprehended, Thai Rath and MCOT said today (May 7).

Din Daeng police investigators said the two additional suspects arrested in the case are Mr. Zhu Lin Su, or Hei Kao, and Mr. Yang Qiujian. The former has been charged with jointly extorting money and detaining others and impersonating officers and the latter theft.

Zhu Lin Su is the leader of this gang that has been targeting  fellow countrymen visiting Thailand and once the victims are chosen they follow the plan together with the gang of policemen.

When the victim asks to transfer money by swiping a card, another suspect, Ms. Charunet, would bring a the machine to them. However she would also alert two provincial police officers, Pol. Sgt. Maj. Weerayuth, or Sgt. Jack, and Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Orthawut, who would threaten them that they would be detained if they paid by swiping a card. They would then be given a QR code to transfer money to the gang’s digital wallet.

Initially police had evidence that 11 people were involved in the criminal extortion of visiting Chinese citizens but they later found out that there was a duplication and this was reduced to 10.

Of the 10, Sgt. Jack and Mr. Jian Pao, another Chinese national, have fled to a neighbouring country while Ms. Nattapong has said he will surrender tomorrow.
