Another Chinese ransom kidnapping in Chonburi

JUST two days after three Chinese suspects were arrested for ransom kidnapping a Chinese woman in the Ekamai area, another Chinese woman and her friend were kidnapped in Chonburi this morning (Mar. 20), Naewna newspaper said.

At 1 p.m. today Mr. Ma Mingshun, 33, a Chinese man accompanied by an interpreter reported to Pol.Lt.Col.Jirasak Abbfang, an investigator at Nong Prue police station, that his Chinese wife along with an older friend had been kidnapped by a criminal who got into her SUV and drove off with the two of them after she had dropped off their children at Mooltripakdee International School located in this subdistrict.

He added that the kidnapper had told him via WeChat app on both his wife’s and her friend’s mobile phones to pay 1 million yuan (around 5 million baht) for their freedom.

He was told to wait at his house with the money with someone coming to collect it while threatening him to not go to the police nor tell anyone about this.

Nong Prue station chief Pol. Col. Tawee Kutthalaeng ordered his team to lie in wait at Ma Mingshun’s house and arrest the man who shows up to collect the money. While waiting for the criminal, the Chinese man was able to converse with his wife via WeChat app.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Kampon Leelapraphorn, head of Chonburi police, also came to Nong Prue station to follow up on the progress of this case.

Police have seized a black motorcycle without a licence plate which the criminal rode and cut in front of the victims’ SUV before getting into their vehicle and zooming away.

An eyewitness, Ms. May (assumed name), said the two women were kidnapped at around 9.15 a.m. in front of a row of shophouses in Soi Pornprapanimit 21. She had heard a woman screaming and dogs barking so came out to have a look. Outside there was a long traffic jam and just then a man wearing a black shirt, long pants and white gloves walked to the SUV’s driver’s door, got in, and quickly drove away. A black motorcycle was parked across the road until the police came and seized it.
