A WELL-KNOWN Phuket entrepreneur praised Deputy Prime Minister-cum Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul for travelling to Phuket to inspect orderliness at popular Patong beach nightlife area last night (Mar. 14) with this building confidence among local people and tourists amid news of mafia being active there, Naewna said this evening.
Mr. Niphon Ekwanich, chairman of the advisory board of Phuket City Development Co.Ltd., said he is a Phuket native and has seen the island province change over the years and believes Anutin’s visit will help dissipate racketeering with perpetrators thinking twice before committing crime as officials are seriously cracking down on illegal activities.
“When he spoke to officials, I heard him say ‘go ahead and do it, don’t be afraid of influence, we have laws protecting those who are in the right’.
“This is a good sign because problems have accumulated for a long time. It’s admirable that he came down, shows he sees these problems.” Niphon said.
While touring Patong area Anutin was whether the permission for night venues in stay open till 4 a.m. now effective in Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Chonburi which geographically covers Pattaya and Koh Samui off Surat Thani would be further expanded and he replied that this depends on each zone’s management and supervision abilities.
“There would be opportunities if they are sure of good supervision,” the minister said.
