MOVE FORWARD leader Chaithawat Tulathon said today (Mar. 13) his party is preparing to fight a party dissolution lawsuit the Election Commission is filing at the Constittutional Court while urging the court to give his camp a chance to answer allegations, TV Channel 7 said.
The polling agency’s members reached a unanimous decision to file a partisan dissolution lawsuit at this court against Move Forward for allegedly violating the lese majeste law, also known as Section 112 of the Criminal Code, yesterday.
In his first interview after this was announced Chaithawat said his party does its best everyday and even though it is difficult to fight Constitutional Court’s decision it would still do its best.
At the very least the court must give Move Forward a chance to answer allegations, present the facts and bring in expert witnesses because submitting as many facts as possible is what the party is duty-bound to do.
Chaithawat sees this to be an important lesson for the Thai soceity because dissolving the party is not the solution to political problems and may in fact extend the conflict to no end because this goes against the hopes of the people for change.
He refused to say whether his camp is about set up a reserve party for MPs to switch to but mentioned that they are doing their best to fight this case even though there is only a small chance of winning.
He also pointed out that this attempt to dissolve Move Forward Party is another matter because the Constitutional Court had at the end of January this year delivered a ruling to deter the progressive party’s sustained attempt to amend the highly contentious lese majeste law and ordered an immediate end to it.
As for rumours that coalition parties are behind this attempt to dissolve Move Forward, Chaithawat said he does not know with this being hearsay.
