NO PHEU THAI MPs would skip a House meeting to see de facto party boss-cum-convict on parole Thaksin Shinawatra in Chiang Mai on the upcoming Thursday, said chief government whip Wisut Chainarun today (Mar. 11).
The chief government whip confirmed he has already instructed all Pheu Thai MPs including those representing northern constituencies to not skip Thursday’s House meeting only to travel to the northern province to see the deposed prime minister in person.
Wisut said he is not expecting any current Pheu Thai MPs to prefer to desert their legislative duties at parliament for that reason though former lawmakers of the ruling party may do so.
Granted parole without an EM ankle bracelet, Thaksin is reportedly scheduled to leave Bangkok for Chiang Mai from Thursday until Saturday to see his relatives and pay homage to a stupa with remains of his forebears in his northern home province.
The chief government whip was apparently responding to speculation that a number of Pheu Thai MPs would rather be absent from Thursday’s House meeting so they could fly to Chiang Mai to see the de facto party boss who reportedly plans to stay at a house in the premises of a golf course there for a few days.
Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin and members of his cabinet might probably manage to see Thaksin on the upcoming Friday – the date on which they are scheduled to leave Bangkok for an official visit to a few northern provinces.
A number of Red Shirt activists of Chiang Mai and elsewhere in the northern region will very likely show up and express moral support for the de facto Pheu Thai boss-cum-convict on parole.
Thaksin’s daughter/Pheu Thai leader Paetongtarn Shinawatra has earlier said she would manage to have the Pheu Thai MPs and other partisan members personally visit her father either at his Chan Song Lah residence on the Thonburi side of the capital or at the party’s headquarters.
