Malaysian men wooing Thai women with cash bouquets

RATHER than the traditional red roses usually given to one’s sweetheart on Valentine’s Day many Malaysian men are opting to present their Thai girlfriends with cash bouquets with flower shops in Songkhla rushing to prepare them as orders flood in, TV Channel 7 said this evening (Feb. 13).

These bouquets, made of banknotes of the chosen currency, are arranged according to the client’s wishes, with some worth as much as 30,000 baht.

Ms. Dujchanan Rachuda, aka Jae May, owner of a flower shop in Sadao district, said this year’s Valentine’s Day celebration has been lively since the beginning of the month with both fresh flower bouquets and those made from banknotes being ordered continuously. Most of her clients are Malaysian men who placed their orders via WeChat application to give to Thai women in this area.

These cash bouquets are becoming more popular because they can be kept for a long time, unlike fresh flowers, especially roses, which while beautiful wilt quickly. Deep-pocketed customers are therefore increasingly opting for the money variety.

The cost of making a cash bouquet starts at 300 baht but goes up depending on the complexity of the design.
