Myanmar deports 19 Thais, some with outstanding arrest warrants

 

MYANMAR deported 19 Thais from Tachileik border town to Mae Sai in Chiang Rai with all rounded up for illegal entry or working in the neighbouring country without permit and six were later found to be wanted here for various crimes, Matichon newspaper said last night (Jan. 27).

At the appointed time Myanmar immigration authorities sent the 19 Thais across the Second Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge to Mae Sai town with Pol. Lt. Col. .Krit Somnasak, Chiang Rai’s immigration inspector and his team on hand to receive them.

A background check found that there were outstanding arrest warrants against six of them, all men, on various charges such as robbery, drug trafficking and premeditated murder.

All six suspects were from provinces in every region of the country and confessed to the charges filed against them and were taken into custody.

After it was ascertained that the remaining were not victims of human trafficking, all were allowed to return home.
