US aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt now sailing in Indo-Pacific region

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

UNITED STATES AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) is currently sailing in the Indo-Pacific region amidst strife and standoffs in the Middle East and South China Sea, according to an informed navy source.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier is leading the Carrier Strike Group 9 on naval missions whilst USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) is operating in the Red Sea where Houthi-fired missiles and drones might be aimed at mercantile or combat ships and Chinese naval forces might further engage in maritime provocations against the Philippine navy and fishermen in the Spratly Islands area.

USS Theodore Roosevelt, homeported at San Diego, California, is currently joining the US Seventh Fleet and being accompanied by cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG-70) and destroyers USS John S. McCain (DDG-56), USS Halsey (DDG-97) and USS Daniel Inouye (DDG-118) on duty in the Indo-Pacific region.

Aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt are a squadron of Boeing F/A-18 Super Hornet jet fighters, among other combat aircraft.

Meanwhile, US aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), leading the Carrier Strike Group 1, has operated in the tension-filled South China Sea since earlier this month.

Accompanying USS Carl Vinson are cruiser USS Princeton (CG-59) and destroyers USS Kidd (DDG-100) and USS Sterett (DDG-104) as well as a squadron of F/A-18s, among other aircraft.

Sailors attached to the USS Carl Vinson-led strike group had earlier made port visits to Singapore and the Philippines and engaged in joint maritime patrols conducted in between with the Japan’s Maritime Self-Defence Force, South Korean and Philippine naval ships in the disputed South China Sea where the Chinese and Philippine navies had intermittently engaged in maritime provocations and standoffs around submerged coral reefs, especially Scarborough Shoal and Second Thomas Shoal, in the Spratly Islands area.

China had laid unilateral claims of territorial integrity over most parts of the resources-rich sea despite 2016’s international tribunal ruling against them.
