Suspect in dismemberment of Myanmar man has fled the country: Police

FIVE FRIENDS of a Myanmar man found his dismembered body parts in a freezer at a shophouse in Bangkok’s Bang Khun Thian district where they all had stayed temporarily as arranged by their Indian job agent this afternoon (Jan. 21) but police said the suspect has now fled the country, Amarin TV said this evening.

At 3 p.m. Pol. Lt. Col. Chakri Disjai, an inspector at Tha Kham police station, rushed to a shophouse in Soi Sakae Ngam 35/3, Samae Dam subdistrict, with a police team upon getting a report that a dismembered body was found there.

At this three-storey shophouse they found the brand new freezer in one of the two rooms on the second floor which was otherwise empty with the murdered man’s dismembered body parts placed within. There were blood stains on the wall and floor of the adjacent bathroom.

At the other room on this floor they found an electric saw and two knives in a box beneath a bed.

Police are in the process of identifying the murder victim and determining the motive for this gruesome crime.

Mr. Rak, 35, a Myanmar man, told police that six of them seeking jobs in Thailand were brought to stay temporarily at this shophouse by their Indian agent, Mr. Sundaravel Pragadesh Kumar, 23, on Thursday.

The agent’s office is in Soi Sathupradit 44 and he charged 15,000 baht for each job placement and another 7,000 baht to process documents.

On Friday morning the agent came and took five of them away with only their deceased friend remaining behind. However, that same night they called their friend at 10.10 p.m. but failed to reach him. They were also unable to reach the Indian agent.

Today they came to see if he was alright but found the door padlocked. They then called the landlord who said to break down the door and go in and have a look, and upon doing so they found their friend dead and dismembered in the freezer.

Ms. Kanyarat Pengjam, 33, the owner of the shophouse, said this building had been rented for less than a week. In the middle of Friday night she saw the Indian job agent drive up in a red MG sedan and park it in front of the building.

He appeared agitated and tried to break down the door but upon failing to do so drove away.

She also mentioned that several years ago some workers killed each other at this building and no one was able to stay there since then.

Police believe that the murder suspect has now fled the country.
