IN A LIGHTNING-FAST operation police raided a popular but unlicensed Indian club on Pattaya’s Walking Street which was packed with mostly Indian tourists with some foreign women dancing on a stage just as policemen moved in, Amarin TV said today (June 1).
At 3 a.m. this morning Pol. Maj. Gen. Thitawat Suriyachai, deputy commander of Provincial Police Region 2, along with Plt.Off. Kittikom Kongsombhot, director of Special Cases Operations Centre Area 2, Department of Special Investigation (DSI),led a team of over 30 officers to check Badshah Club.
This raid is part of a crackdown on entertainment venues operating without a permit and violating the law on employing foreign workers.
During the raid, the police team found a large number of foreign tourists, mostly Indian nationals, as well as Thai female tourists. The establishment was bustling with activity, with patrons dancing and enjoying the services.
After ordering the lights switched on and halting the music they proceeded to inspect the national identity cards, passports, and identification documents of all individuals inside the establishment. They separately checked the staff, finding several Indian nationals employed there with initial inspection showing that they possessed valid work permits.
The police team also found five foreign women dancing on a stage inside the establishment: one Uzbek, three Russians, and one Georgian. They were taken in for further verification of their work documents.
Following the raid, police charged those running the club with “operating an establishment without a licence” and are gathering more evidence to investigate other related offences, including employing foreign workers, for further legal action.
