Dissolution of Bhumjaithai sought over Saksayam’s convicted wrongdoing

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE ELECTION COMMISSION was today (Jan.19) petitioned to forward a criminal case to the Constitutional Court in pursuit of a dissolution of the Bhumjaithai following the court-convicted wrongdoing of Saksayam Chidchob, former secretary-general of the second largest coalition partner.

The petition submitted to the polling agency by activist lawyer Patrapong Supaksorn primarily calls for the Constitutional Court’s possible ruling to dissolve the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, brother of Saksayam who has recently resigned as Bhumjaithai secretary-general and a party-listed MP.

Saksayam has been recently ruled guilty by court of illegally holding shares via a nominee in Buri Charoen Construction Ltd. Part. whilst assuming a cabinet seat as transport minister in the time of a previous government.

Patrapong has accused the former transport minister’s construction firm of having conspired with others to grab billions of baht in allegedly undue gains from varied construction projects run by government agencies over the past years.

In his former capacity as Bhumjaithai secretary-general, Saksayam could possibly have handed out some of the ill-gained money to Bhumjaithai MPs albeit in hush-hush fashion, especially during last year’s electoral campaigns, according to the petitioner.

If finally found guilty as accused, the Bhumjaithai, to which 71 MPs including Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Interior Minister/party leader Anutin Charnvirakul are currently attached, could possibly be dissolved by court, immediately rendering a ban on political activity for the party’s executive board members for a number of years.

However, Anutin has earlier contended that Saksayam’s court verdict was merely related to personal wrongdoings which, he said, had by no means involved partisan affairs.
