WHILE New Year fireworks enthral revellers, it terrifies their pet dogs and cats at home with a large number having run away leading to some worried owners posting messages to help find them at Watchdog Thailand Foundation (WTF) webpage, Thai Rath newspaper said.
It was revealed that one dog got so scared he died of shock during the dazzling fireworks displays.
At 6 a.m. this morning more than ten dog owners had posted messages on WTF webpage seeking help in finding missing pets with this total being higher than previous years and does not include a large number of others still undeclared. Most of the owners of missing pets are in the Thonburi side of the metropolis.
Some dogs are still in a state of shock and shaking while many have got hit by vehicles,
WTF officials told this newspaper’s reporters that it had put out an announcement urging dog and cat owners to take care of their pets throughout the New Year celebrations because the loud firework noises frighten them.
Despite this many owners just locked them up at home and went out to celebrate.
That dogs get so scared is because their hearing is 500 times better than humans and the sound of fireworks petrifies them.
As it is very difficult to take care of a frightened dog, owners are advised to lock them in the house and be with them during fireworks displays, hugging them when they start shaking.
