By Thai Newsroom Reporters

SENATOR UPAKIT PACHARIYANGKUN was today (Dec.14) pressed with drug-trafficking and money-laundering charges, plus alleged connection with transnational criminals.

The Office of the Attorney-General lodged the charges against the senator for drug-trading, money-laundering and conspiring with transnational criminals at the Criminal Court.

Upakit has been accused of conspiring to commit crimes involving drug-trafficking and money-laundering in connection with Myanmar drug trafficking suspect named Tun Myint Latt who had been earlier arrested by the Myanmar authorities.

The senator had been allegedly involved in the trafficking of drugs across the Thai-Myanmar border and allegedly laundered the ill-gotten money over the last several years.

Upakit who categorically denied the drug-trading and money-laundering charges had earlier purchased a building in Soi Ari area off Phaholyothin Road in Bangkok and rented it to the Ruam Thai Sang Chart for use as the party’s headquarters.
