Chonlanan’s wife says he’s ready to resign after govt is set up

IN RESPONSE to social media clamour questioning when Pheu Thai Party leader Chonlanan Srikaew is going to resign as he said he would if the “uncles’ camps” join his party, his wife Nuansakul Bamrungpong said today (Aug. 19) he is ready to do after a coalition government has been set up, Matichon newspaper said.

In a Facebook post she wrote, “Not clinging, sufficiency, and ready is Chonlanan’s answer to the hashtag ‘At what hour of the day is Chonlanan resigning?'”

This hashtag soared to the top of the list for Thailand yesterday.

Nuansakul added that life without attachment, self-sufficiency and keeping one’s word is not difficult and not a big deal if the condition Chonlanan stated materialises.

He had been recorded as saying in an interview before the May 14 general election, “If we join hands with Palang Pracharath Party, strike a deal with Uncle Pom (Palang Pracharath boss Prawit Wongsuwan) I will resign as party leader.”

While being a nominal leader with Thaksin Shinawatra being the de facto boss, Chonlanan is still determined to work and achieve success amid limited choices for the country under the 2017 constitution.

He wants to steer his party through a House/Senate vote for prime minister next Tuesday (Aug. 22) and set up a government thus allowing the country to move on before stepping down, she added.

Resigning this position would not lead to the family losing its identity because from the start, to the present and in future they were just ordinary people walking on the same ground, she said, adding that the rank and title of the mask that people want him to remove is not important to their family.
