PALANG PRACHARATH treasurer Naruemon Pinyosinwat today (Mar.24) staged a quiet protest by declining to contest the May 14 general election in party-listed mode.
Naruemon was dissatisfied with the Palang Pracharath electoral candidacy committee for not naming her among the top 10 party-listed candidates vying for MP in the nationwide election, a partisan source said.
In the 2019 election, Naruemon was ranked No.5 on the Palang Pracharath party list of 150 candidates, 18 of whom were elected as MP, but this time she was ranked No.20 among a total of 100 party-listed contestants vying in the May 14 election, thus excusing herself from running at all, the source said.
The Palang Pracharath treasurer was considerably displeased despite the fact that she has been personally close to the party boss and anticipated ranking within the top 10.
Meanwhile, Palang Pracharath secretary-general Santi Prompat, who currently sits on the party’s electoral candidacy panel, said there will likely be no change to the party list now that Naruemon has already declared to not run alongside others.
Santi said the treasurer’s surprise move will by no means affect the party’s ongoing campaign.
Naruemon was deposed alongside a renegade Thammanat Prompao by caretaker prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as deputy labour minister and deputy agriculture & cooperatives minister respectively shortly following 2021’s censure debate.
