THE ELECTION COMMISSION has been petitioned today (Mar.7) to take steps toward a possible dissolution of the Pheu Thai for having a politically-banned person help with the party’s ongoing electoral campaign.
Sonthiya Sawasdee, member of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart, called on the polling agency to forward the case over to the Constitutional Court to consider dissolving the Pheu Thai, guided by de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra, for evidently allowing former Red Shirt leader Nattawut Saikua to publicly launch speeches of political content during the party’s campaign stumps in the provinces.
Sonthiya contended that Nattawut who has been sentenced by court to two years and eight months in jail and prohibited from all levels of politics for 10 years should not have been allowed to play such political roles in public.
Sonthiya charged that Nattawut who was questionably named director of “Pheu Thai Family” has usually launched verbal barrages against his opponents including Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and publicly declared the Pheu Thai campaign platforms despite his being banned from politics.
The ex-Red Shirt leader has often told the crowds that he is not legally allowed to run for MP or assume a cabinet seat due to his being politically banned whilst eloquently delivering speeches and wearing a Pheu Thai shirt.
The Ruam Thai Sang Chart member has earlier lodged a separate petition for the Constitutional Court to consider dissolving the Pheu Thai for allegedly being masterminded by Thaksin who has been living in self-exile overseas following the 2006 coup which deposed him from premiership.
The petitioner had alleged the earlier event in which Thaksin’s daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra had visited her father in Hong Kong underlined the fact that she was merely performing under his influence whilst being named one of a trio of Pheu Thai partisan candidates for prime minister.
Attending live podcasts in the name of Tony Woodsome, the deposed premier has regularly aired his straightforward remarks on the Prayut regime among other political topics and repeatedly forecast a landslide victory for the Pheu Thai in an upcoming general election.
