8 hurt as speeding ambulance hits police vehicle

EIGHT persons were seriously injured in two crashes at the same spot in Phetchabun province today (Jan. 14) with a speeding ambulance slamming into a police pickup truck driven to the spot where a little earlier a sedan had crashed into a power pole, Sanook.com said.

The double crashes in Mueang district began with a red sedan hitting a power pole with the front getting badly damaged and the driver injured.

Police came to the scene of the accident in a pickup truck after alerting rescue volunteers from Rompho Phetchabun Foundation to help out.

As they were directing the traffic and helping the injured driver of the sedan an ambulance taking a patient and a relative to Phetchabun Hospital zoomed in at high speed and slammed into the police pickup truck with the impact propelling the vehicle forward and injuring a policeman and a rescue volunteer.

The second crash also left the ambulance’s driver, nurse, nursing assistant, the patient and relative, altogether 5 people, badly injured.
