Bad traffic jams as exodus from Bangkok starts

PEOPLE are continuously departing Bangkok to celebrate New Year in their Northeastern home province with parts of the route now heavily congested and this despite factories and some companies yet to shut down for the holidays, Siam Rath newspaper said this evening (Dec. 29)

Vehicles are moving very slowly at two stretches with one being around kilometre 9 of Mittraphap highway where there are some petrol pumps and factories with cars frequently coming in and out.

The other bottleneck is while going uphill from Thap Kwang sub-district of Saraburi Province’s Kaeng Khoi district all the way to Muak Lek district and then Pak Chong district of Nakhon Ratchasima province.

Traffic conditions are expected to worsen from this evening onwards as more people head to the Northeast, even so some groups of people are still monitoring the situation before setting out on their journey.
