AN eight-year-old girl saw her stepfather stab her mother to death and stayed with her dead body all night before altering her landlady at 6 a.m. this morning who then called the police, Sanook.com said this afternoon (May 22).
The murder occured at a single-storey shophouse in Muang district of Samut Songkhram province. Within was the body of Ms Bua Phan, 54, who was a construction worker. She had been stabbed twice in the back and lay dead on the floor in a pool of blood.
The young girl, Daeng (assumed name), said when her mother returned home at 11 p.m. last night she saw her husband Mr Nong, 36, and the two of them started quarreling.
She added that she got within the mosquito net to go to sleep and told her mother to join her but she was searching for something during which her stepfather stabbed her twice and fled.
Ms Pranee, 73, the landlady said the couple had rented the shophouse for almost a year now but the husband was not there all the time as they quarrelled frequently.
Meanwhile Mr. Ruchayuth Sutthawawan, the head of the village in Ban Prok subdistrict where the shophouse is located, said the couple drank alcohol and quarrelled on a daily basis and had broken up three days ago.
However, last evening Nong tried to patch it up with his wife and they had chatted via Facebook video call for a couple of minutes but it ended in her getting killed.
Police later arrested Nong as he was trying to board a bus to escape.
He confessed to killing his wife, saying he lived with her for a year until she kicked him out three days ago.
He added that he talked to her on a video call but she just jeered at him, which angered him so he came to the house but she was out running errands.
He waited for her and upon her return tried to persuade her to take him back but she again refused. He then stabbed her twice in the back and grabbed her one-baht gold necklace and fled.
In the morning he was about to board an interprovincial bus to get away from this province but was instead caught by police.
Police have filed charges of murder and theft against him.
