ACTING ON a tipoff Mukdahan police seized 384 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) worth 134 million baht just as it was being transported for delivery in Ayutthaya province and arrested three suspects, Thai Rath newspaper reported today (Dec. 8).
Provincial police chief Pol. Maj. Gen. Santhan Intarachak had got word that a big lot of drugs would be passing through this northern province and assigned Pol. Lt. Col. Wijit Bunwan, head of the investigation division, to mount a dragnet.
Several checkpoints were set up along the Mekong river and on December 6 one unit observed a ten-wheel truck registered in southern Chumphon province passing through which they thought was an anomaly.
This police unit gave chase and upon stopping the truck found eight sacks containing 384 packages of Ice, all totaling around 384 kilogrammes, hidden among some cassava.
Upon being arrested the truck driver, Mr. Paitoon, or Kee, Boonsung, 56, of Ubon Ratchathani province led police to Mr. Chaianan, or Nok, Phansena, 47, and Ms. Sompong Butwong, 46, both of Amnat Charoen province.
All three confessed that the Ice was being taken for delivery in Ayutthaya province.
