DEPUTY Prime Minister Wisanu Krua-ngam revealed this afternoon (Sept. 1) that Finance Minister Predee Daochai, who is said to have submitted his resignation today just 26 days after assuming office, has been sick, Khaosod newspaper reported.
Wisanu said he thought Predee had taken leave because he was sick but then anyone can get sick and he himself too has been sick. He added that he did not know anything about the resignation but has been told this has occurred.
Questioned about news that Predee resigned because he was dissatisfied with the reshuffle of ministry officials, Wisanu pointed out that this was unlikely to be the reason with the Finance Ministry reshuffle list being tabled to the Cabinet meeting today and it was the same as had been submitted at the roving Cabinet meeting in Rayong.
Asked whether the submission of a resignation letter means it takes immediately effect, Wisanu said he still did not know for sure whether Predee had resigned or not and it is better to not talk a lot. However if it was true there would be an acting minister.
However Wisanu pointed out that a minister’s resignation take immediate effect or immediately on the date mentioned in the resignation letter. For example a minister could say his resignation takes effect after he attends a United Nations meeting.
This differs from the civil service where there is a 90-day gap between the actual submission of the resignation letter and departure.
