More assets of MP facing online gambling charges frozen

THE Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) today (Oct. 20) froze an additional 44 million baht in digital assets of Klatham MP Chonnapat Naksua, representing Songkhla constituency 4, and his accomplices and gave them 30 days to provide evidence to show that these assets are unrelated to their alleged involvement in online gambling, TV Channel 7 said.

In its action against Chonnapat and his accomplices who have been accused of facilitating online gambling AMLO has to date seized or frozen approximately 182 million baht in assets in three separate instances with today’s move being the fourth.

This case is currently under the review of the Civil Court.

As AMLO had identified additional assets comprising funds and digital assets held in a digital asset trading account, valued at approximately 44 million baht, the agency’s Secretary-General Thepsu Bowornchotidara, exercising authority granted under Section 48, paragraph two of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, B.E. 2542 (1999), issued an order to provisionally freeze these assets which are related to suspected online gambling offence.

This provisional seizure order remains in effect for a period not exceeding 90 days. Should the owners of the seized assets or any involved party wish to request the revocation of this order, they may submit a written application to AMLO’s Secretary-General, accompanied by evidence demonstrating that these assets are not connected to the alleged offence. Such an application must be filed within 30 days from the date of receiving written notification of the order.
