Hong Kong man dies in fall from hotel, likely stressed after being ripped off

A HONGKONGER died instantly after falling from a hotel in Nonthaburi in the wee hours of this morning (Sep. 11) and it is suspected the young man was severely stressed after a masseuse extorted all his money, Amarin TV said.

At approximately 1.43 a.m., police at Mueang Nonthaburi station received a report of a foreigner falling from a tall hotel in Bang Khen subdistrict, Mueang district, and quickly rushed to the scene after coordinating with a rescue team to likewise do so.

At the entrance of the lobby, the Hong Kong man, identified as Mr. Chan Sing Lam, 28. was found lying in a pool of blood.  Inspection revealed that he had checked into the hotel on Aug. 30 and was scheduled to check out tomorrow (Sep.12).

Hotel staff and witnesses said that a masseuse had ripped off the deceased, and she had challenged him to report the matter to the police. However, he did not take this step.

About half an hour prior to the incident, the deceased had come downstairs and asked a staff member for paper and a pen, stating that he wanted to write something, before returning to his room.

Approximately 30 minutes later, while staff members were eating in the dining area, they heard a loud crash — which sounded like glass breaking — and rushed out to check. They discovered that the tourist had fallen from the building and died so immediately contacted Mueang Nonthaburi police station.

Investigators and a forensic physician from the Central Institute of Forensic Science soon arrived and proceeded to thoroughly examine the room and collect evidence to determine the actual cause of the fall. Police are informing Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Bangkok to contact his relatives for repatriation of his body for a funeral.
