Sondhi kicks off multi-provincial tour with Israeli embassy being first stop

FORMER leader of People’s Alliance for Democracy, aka “Yellow Shirts”, Sondhi Limthongkul launched a new political movement under the slogan “Take Back our Thailand” in front of the Israeli embassy, the first stop of a multi-provincial tour, following the deportation of an Israeli man, Mr. Yaacov Ohayon, after Koh Samui Provincial Court found him guilty of threatening another person, Amarin TV said.

Joining him were Mr. Pichit Chaimongkol, leader of the Student and People Network for Reform of Thailand, and Mr. Nitithorn Lamluea, core representative of the People’s Unification Group.

Sondhi said his goal is not to topple the government but to exert pressure. His stance is clear: if the government fails to perform, it cannot remain in power, as he intends to protest against any specific issues that arise.

When asked why his tour of various provinces excluded Buriram — Bhumjaithai Party’s home base – Sondhi said this lower northeastern province is already “monopolised” by Thai Liberal leader Seripisut Temiyavej so it is best left alone. The latter is pursuing a libel lawsuit against de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob pertaining to charges of illicitly occupying Khao Kradong land which locates Chang International Circuit and Chang Arena sporting venues owned and run by Newin.

Regarding the issue of “grey capitalists” and illicit Chinese business interests, Sondhi revealed that he would indeed take action, planning to hold a public forum in Chonburi.

Asked if he is going to submit a formal letter to the Chinese embassy, Sondhi told reporters not to ask “when” as it would certainly be done.

Further questioned if his movement might affect Thai-Israeli relations, given the large number of Thai labourers working there, Sondhi said Israel relies on Thai labour who are driven by financial need to work in their country.

He alleged that many Thais had lost their lives in Israel during the conflict but these deaths were kept secret.

It is Israel’s prerogative to stop accepting Thai workers but they are the only ones who don’t fear death provided they get paid.
