CHONBURI police issued an urgent clarification this evening (Aug. 2) denying that the four suspects arrested for the murder of two Russian siblings and a Thai family of three are either sons of police officers or were hired to act on their behalf, Amarin TV said.
This followed rumours spreading on social media and some media outlets that alleged that the four murder suspects have close ties to police officers or were hired to act on behalf of police officers in committing the crimes.
Chonburi police said their teams have investigated the facts in the two murder cases using database, investigation records, and relevant evidence and found no evidence that the four suspects are sons of police officers or have any relationship with police officers as alleged.
Furthermore, there is no evidence to suggest that the four suspects were supported, ordered, or acted on behalf of police officers, as has been publicly disclosed.
Chonburi police added that prosecution is proceeding based on evidence and the rule of law, without discrimination or assistance to offenders.
“We will continue to investigate, expand the scope of the investigation, and prosecute all involved parties according to the law. If the public has any information or evidence that could be useful to the case, they can report it to the police for investigation and legal action,” the statement said.
Mr. Thana Kertthong, or Pong, 43, and Mr. Thongchai Srinil, or Thong, 39, were arrested at Sa Kaeo province bordering Cambodia yesterday where they confessed to murdering Russian siblings, Diana Nazimova, 22, and Roman Nazimov, 17, who left their home in Huai Yai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi, on a motorcycle early last Sunday morning (July 26) and had been missing since then, they were brought to back to Chonburi for detailed questioning at Huai Yai police station.
Pong confessed further that the two of them plus two other suspects, had previously committed a triple murder at the end of June.
Police subsequently arrested two more suspects: Mr. Chatchanan Paen-iam, or Fluke, and Mr. Asadang Chuawong, or Ball, who allegedly participated in the robbery and murder of the family of three.
