Netizens want death penalty for gang who killed family of 3 and Russian siblings

OUTRAGED netizens are calling for the death penalty for a gang of four men who killed a Thai family of three, parents and a child, with two of them around a month later killing two Russian siblings in Chonburi, Amarin TV said today (Aug. 1).

After Mr. Thana Kertthong, or Pong, 43, and Mr. Thongchai Srinil, or Thong, 39, were arrested at Sa Kaeo province bordering Cambodia where they confessed to murdering Russian siblings, Diana Nazimova, 22, and Roman Nazimov, 17, who left their home in Huai Yai subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi, on a motorcycle early Sunday morning (July 26) and had been missing since then, they were brought to back to Chonburi for detailed questioning at Huai Yai police station.

Pong confessed further that the two of them plus two other suspects, had previously committed a triple murder at the end of June.

Police subsequently arrested two more suspects: Mr. Chatchanan Paen-iam, or Fluke, and Mr. Asadang Chuawong, or Ball, who allegedly participated in the robbery and murder of the family of three.

Investigations revealed that after posing as police officers to search the victims’ home, they abducted and killed them in a coconut grove.  Pong shot the mother, Ball the father, and Fluke child.

After Pong and Thong took police to the burial site of the two Russian siblings, they showed the burial site of the family of three in a coconut grove in the same subdistrict of Choburi’s Bang Lamung district, approximately 2km from the crime scene.

Netizens demanded the death penalty for the suspects in this case, citing its shocking nature, damage to Thailand’s tourism image, and the dangerous nature of the crime, particularly repeated offences committed shortly after being released from prison.

Amarin TV’s news team travelled to Pong’s home to speak to his aunt, Rat, 74. Upon being told of her nephew’s confession she tearfully said he had not kept his promise to reform and take care of her in her old age.

She said she would accept whatever legal action is taken against him, including the death penalty, but would probably ask to see him the day he is executed, because after all, he is her blood relative.

She also sent her condolences to the victims’ families, but will not be apologising in person because she believes her nephew should be the one to do so.

She repeatedly asked if Pong had been captured alive because she would like to visit him in prison if able to do so financially.
