IN THE second consecutive day of protest against Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha a group of demonstrators this afternoon (June 19) marched from the Victory Monument to his residence at the First Infantry Regiment barracks but upon facing a large police force at Din Daeng intersection moved to a nearby market, Matichon newspaper said.
Led by Mr. Paisal Chanpan, a taxi driver and political activist, the protesters from the People’s Reform Group had earlier planned to march from kilometre 0, that is the Democracy Monument, but at 4 p.m. the assembly point was changed to the Victory Monument due heavy police presence at the former location.
At 4.55 p.m. Paisal told the demonstrators to start their “Car mob to Prayut’s house” march by going down Ratchawithi road to Din Daeng intersection,
“If intercepted by police we will walk on the counterflow side but if not we will go along this route. We are going to eat at Din Daeng intersection and raise signs to release our friends,” he said.
Before setting forth the protesters shouted “Release our friends” and “Prayut get out” three times.
Earlier Mr. Chokdee Rompruek, or Alek, a songwriter for the people, said he would be going to Bangkok Remand Prison for his daily activity to stop detention of their friends but will be joining the protesters at Din Daeng intersection.
At 5 p.m. as the protesters began marching to the intersection they displayed placards and foam boxes with names of detained political activists on them as well as other messages such as “Stop using violence against the people.”
They also shouted “Release our friends” and “12345 I here too.”
At 5.12 p.m. when the procession approached Din Daeng intersection they faced a police blockade on the route to the First Infantry Regiment barracks on Vibhavadi Rangsit road so they crossed over to Sriwanich Market in Soi Ruammit.
