Police vehicle set ablaze in fierce clash at Din Daeng intersection

EMOTIONALLY-CHARGED protesters clashed with police at Din Daeng intersection this evening (June 11) and set fire to a police vehicle after being blocked from riding to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha’s residence at First Infantry Regiment barracks which is barely a kilometre away, Naewna newspaper said.

The protesters mostly rode motorcycles to this hotspot, where clashes had taken for weeks last year, from Victory Monument after the ‘Walk to Chase Tu’ protest march reached that point. Tu is Gen. Prayut’s nickname.

The clash erupted after the motorcycle-riding protesters were blocked at a police checkpoint from heading to the Prime Minister’s residence with police intermittently warning them to disperse but the protesters instead set off firecrackers at them.

At 7 p.m. the situation was very tense with police moving in to take control of this intersection and while the protesters retreated they continued setting off firecrackers at the police.

Some of them smashed and set fire to a police vehicle parked opposite Sriwanich market.
