A FACEBOOK user warned road users to beware of glass marbles being fired at vehicles as a delivery truck passing through Prachuab Kriri Khan before dawn today (June 2) was hit after several vehicles were similarly struck in Phetchaburi, TV Channel 7 said.
In issuing this warning, Facebook user “Korked Jiamsakul” also shared a photo showing the windshield on the driver’s side shattered by a glass marble which he held up and was clearly fired by a slingshot.
The incident took place at 4.10 a.m. in Khao Khan Kratai, Ao Noi subdistrict, Prachuap Khiri Khan, with the driver who is this Facebook user’s friend saying while driving down the road glass marbles suddenly flew in from the median strip with one hitting the windshield of his delivery truck.
Fortunately, he was uninjured and able to maintain control of the large vehicle, preventing a more serious accident and property damage. Although deeply shocked he has not yet filed a police report because he has to urgently deliver the cargo as it could spoil but plans to do so later.
Previously, on May 26 Facebook page “SK Ekachai 76 Incident Coordination Centre” posted a warning about a similar incident that occurred at approximately 3.17 a.m. the previous day in Khao Yoi district, Phetchaburi. The victim had parked and was resting by the roadside when an unknown assailant fired a glass marble at his car window, causing it to shatter. This page also mentioned that several other victims in this province had been similarly hit.
As the two incidents occurred close to each other with a similar pattern – firing glass marbles at vehicle windshields and windows in the dark – this shows dangerous behaviour towards road users. Whether this was a reckless or deliberate act by the perpetrators, it can lead to serious accidents and even fatalities with road users travelling on this route urged to be careful, especially at night.
