AN initial inquiry of a fire that raced across the seventh-floor rooftop bar of a Pattaya hotel late last night (May 21) suggests that it was likely caused by a short circuit with four people injured and rushed to the hospital.
Ten fire trucks quickly arrived at J.A. Plus Hotel in Pattaya Soi 3 to put out the fierce blaze and prevent it from spreading to other floors after it broke out at around 9.30 p.m. By 11 p.m. Fire & Rescue Thailand said on Facebook that the firefighters had brought it under control and were checking if anyone was still trapped in the building.
Tourists fled in panic from the hotel which has 173 rooms with over 120 of them occupied last night, mostly by foreigners, including Indians and various other nationalities.
While firefighters focused on extinguishing the blaze, other officials assisted tourists who had evacuated the hotel to ensure they had alternative accommodations.
Mr. Anusak Piriyomorn, Bang Lamung district chief, along with Mr. Parames Ngampicheth, former Pattaya mayor, inspected the scene of the fire at the well-known Pattaya hotel.
While initial investigation suggests the fire may have been triggered by an electrical short circuit at the rooftop bar, forensic investigators are still examining to determine the true cause with the extent of the damage also still being assessed.
