2 Chinese men rob gold shop after running out of money while holidaying in Thailand

TWO young Chinese men who spent all their money while holidaying in Thailand were caught in Bangkok last evening (April 27) after robbing a gold shop in Nakhon Ratchasima (Korat), PPTVHD36 said today.

The two suspects, identified as Mr. Zhou Qintao, 27, from Guangdong province, and Mr. Song Haolong, 19, from Sichuan province, were wearing black balaclavas, black long-sleeved shirts, and shorts, when they brandished a firearm to rob Yaowarat Dan Kwian gold shop in Dan Kwian subdistrict, Chok Chai district. They used a hammer to smash several glass display cases then grabbed approximately 30 gold rings worth around 380,000 baht and escaped in a white Toyota sedan.

Police investigators traced the sedan to a car rental shop in Prawet district, Bangkok, and followed them as they came to return the vehicle, arresting them on the spot and also seized the stolen gold rings. The firearm was missing with the two Chinese men saying they discarded it after the robbery.

Initial investigation revealed that the two of them came to Thailand for a holiday and had Thai girlfriends. After running out of money, they planned to rob a gold shop.

A Nakhon Ratchasima police team is currently en route to Bangkok to take the two suspects back to this Northeastern province for further interrogation.
