THE DOMESTIC oil crisis seems to be affecting Songkran travel plans with a NIDA opinion poll showing that over 50 percent of the respondents had not made advance plans to travel during this period, TV Channel 7 and Naewna newspaper said today (March 22).
The NIDA survey, entitled “Oil Shortage, Even Talking to Your Partner Requires Turning Off the Lights”, took place during March 17-18 with 1,310 respondents aged over 18 , representing all regions, educational levels, occupations, and income levels nationwide being reached.
Altogether 31.76 percent of the respondents were somewhat alarmed by the oil crisis, but 33.9 percent believed they would not face a shortage of fuel in their daily life.
Furthermore, 44.28 percent were unsure if domestic oil reserves would be sufficient for 98 days and whether the government could secure additional reserves, based on data from March 13.
Regarding Songkran travel plans if the oil crisis persists, 14.80 percent said they had cancelled all travel plans, while a similar percentage (12.06 percent) planned to travel as scheduled. A significant 57.56 percent had no advance travel plans.
