AFTER clashes broke out along the Thai-Cambodian border since yesterday [Dec. 7] the First Army Region through Burapha task force has launched a military operation to reclaim Thai sovereign territory along the border at Sa Kaeo province, PPTVHD36 and Naewna newspaper said this afternoon.
This task force has moved to take control and reclaim three Thai “sovereign areas” at Sa Kaeo province: Nong Chan, Nong Ya Kaeo, and Khlong Phaeng, after detecting movements that affected border security.
The First Army Region Operations Centre received a report from Burapha Task Force that Cambodia has been on high alert along the border. In Sa Kaeo province, personnel, equipment and heavy weapons have been continuously moved into positions, with the Thai side closely monitoring the situation.
Throughout this morning, reports of troop movements approaching the border were received, posing a threat to Thai sovereignty and creating a sense of insecurity for residents in the area, in violation of the Thai-Cambodian peace agreement.
Meanwhile Gen. Chaiyapruek Duangpraphat, army chief of staff, said on the clashes at the border that are continuing for the second day, that “The goal is for the army to ensure that Cambodia’s military capabilities remain ineffective for a long time, for the safety of our children.”
Earlier Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who was accompanied by Thai military leaders, said in a statement broadcast on television that, “Since December 7, 2025, there have been clashes along the Thai-Cambodian border in several areas. This situation is being closely monitored by the government at all stages. We have ordered security agencies to fully integrate their efforts to ensure the safety of our citizens and to strictly protect Thai national sovereignty.
“The government reaffirms that Thailand remains committed to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity in accordance with international law and the right to legitimate self-defence. Today, the National Security Council met and resolved to reaffirm the government’s commitment to implementing the council’s resolution, that is conducting military operations in all situations commensurate with the prevailing circumstances, and conducting other necessary military operations.”
Anutin emphasized that to ensure accuracy of information and to prevent public panic, the public was urged to follow official news channels only. He assigned Defence and Foreign Affairs ministries to be the primary communicators of all information related to the current situation. The government will integrate information with all branches of the armed forces and security agencies at all levels to ensure that information released to the public is accurate, clear and consistent.
