Belarusian model kidnapped from Bangkok, killed for organs by scammers in Myanmar

A YOUNG Belarusian model who travelled to Bangkok for a job interview on Sep. 20 was abducted and taken to a scam centre in Myanmar where she was murdered and her organs sold, Naewna and Thai Rath quoted The Standard in Hong Kong and Daily Mail in UK as saying this morning (Oct. 21).

According to these news reports the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the incident involving Vera Kravtsova, 26, and is assisting the family through diplomatic channels. Her mother has reportedly negotiated with the scammers, who agreed to return her ashes without payment. She plans to travel to Myanmar to handle the remains.

Sources revealed that immediately upon arriving in Thailand for a job interview after receiving a text message offering her part-time modeling work Kravtsova was abducted by a local crime gang and taken to the border with Myanmar. Her passport and mobile phone were confiscated and she was then transferred to a lawless area in northern Myanmar known as “The Camp” which is a major online crime hub operated jointly by Chinese gangs and local armed groups.

There she was physically assaulted and threatened to join an online romance scam.

People taken there are detained and forced to participate in online crimes such as call centers and romance scams. If they do not comply with orders or do not achieve their targets, they are physically assaulted, tortured, or threatened with prostitution and organ sales.

Kravtsova failed to meet her targets and refused to cooperate with the online crime gang. She was then sold to an organ trafficking ring. Shortly afterwards, the crime gang contacted Kravtsova’s family, claiming she had died and demanding US$500,000 (approximately 16 million baht) in exchange for the return of her body.

When the Kraftsova family refused, the criminal gang sent another message stating that Kraftsova’s body had been cremated and that there was no need to search for her.

A friend of Kravtsova said in a X.com post that Vera had been working since childhood — in cafés, in services, wherever she could — and dreamed of opening her own place in China. Her life was hard, but she remained kind and positive.

“She was very naïve and truly believed in people,” her friend recalls. “If the kidnapping really happened, it was probably because of her trust and openness.”
